His most notable role, however, was as Phil Dunphy’s father, Frank, in the popular modern family cast members sitcom. His death was revealed in a recent episode of the show, which aired two months before the series’ final season in the US.
Willard’s death was shocking to many, and it has led many to question whether or not he was playing himself. In an episode released four months after his death, the character of Frank tries to deflect the negative energy surrounding him by trying to repair his car. After attempting to fix it, Frank accidentally flips it over, and the married couple offer to give him a ride. Sadly, this isn’t enough to get the acclaim that Willard deserved.
Shelley Long
Shelley Lee Long is an American actress, singer, and comedian. She is best known for her role as Diane Chambers on the popular sitcom Cheers. For the role, she received five Emmy nominations, winning Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 1983. In addition to the Emmy awards, Long also won two Golden Globe Awards.
